Following my week at USA-S, it was time to get on the road and get started with this “retirement” plan. My first stop officially off work would be to visit my friend Greg Temple at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo.

Greg has just taken over the reigns of the program, and is doing a great job setting up a new culture. I spent Monday-Friday watching practices, and was impressed with the team atmosphere – team breaks, teammates cheering each other, and many other positive signs. This was also facilitated as that weekend they were having their intersquad, and there were a few other events added to the line-up that took place during the week: ultimate, pull-up and push-up contests, etc!

I also took the opportunity to sit down and chat with Greg for what will soon be released as the first episode of Swim Coach in Transit podcast. I’m thought it was a great conversation, and I’m really excited about releasing it as soon as I can get a handle on sound editing.

In sum, that was a great week, I got a few great ideas and had a great time. If any club coaches reading this have athletes for whom D2 might be a good fit, I would greatly encourage them to look in William Jewell. That program is set to grow and improve over the next years, and that’s always a great thing to be a part of!
