The podcast’s 3rd guest was Ben Utesch, who is the Head Age Group Coach for the Ames Cyclone Aquatics Club (ACAC) in Ames, IA. While in most cases I only had the chance to interview one coach from each club I visited, as I have previously lived in Ames my stay there was a little more extended, and that allowed me to both see a little more of the club and interview more coaches from their staff.
If you listened to the previous episode, with ACAC’s Head Coach Mike Peterson, he mentioned and praised Ben’s work in the club’s Age Group program. Mike was also the one who suggested I ask Ben to be on the podcast, and I’m glad I followed his advice! Rather than only having seasoned/head coaches on, it’s great to change the pace a little bit and talk to someone who’s still young into coaching.
Ben is one of those young coaches that is great to watch on deck, with tons of energy and love for the sport, and as you’re about to hear also a great wealth of knowledge to go with it, and still pretty humble about it!
