In this episode, I sat down, from a distance, with Justin Correia, who’s the Head Coach for the Southwest Stars, in Orlando, FL. Prior his current stint with the Stars, Justin was a Head Coach for 3 different clubs, and he’s had a long list of accomplishments in the sport everywhere he’s gone, including a few Training Camps for USA-Swimming and guest speaker appearances for a few LSCs; he’s also involved with Governance, both at the LSC and National level.

You might also recognize his last name thanks to his sister, Maritza Correia, who was a part of the US Olympic swimming team in 2004 – and he does expand on how seeing her, as well as his teammate Brooke Bennett’s path, has influenced his coaching, among many other things.

This chat took place right in the middle of the country, or world-wide lockdown to slow the spread of COVID-19 – also evidenced by his kids and my dog on the background and me getting distracted by whatever was happening in and around my house – but that means we did spend about 10min in the beginning talking about how that’s affected his day to day, and what he’s doing to keep his team engaged during this time. We also talked about lessons learned and things we might continue doing once we’re back to normalcy – and we all hope that happens soon!

Right now it’s available on Spotify, Google Podcasts, iTunes, and directly with the player below. Here are a few links to thinks we talked about on this episode:

And again, many thanks to my buddy Madu for the great soundtrack I choose for the podcast – check out his Instagram (@machete_bomb_madu) for a ton of great music! And also thanks to Zapslat for the sound effects.
